CTU PhD students internship at NII Tokyo
CTU Prague Ph.D. students' can apply for 3-6 months internship at NII Tokyo
Hot news
How to apply, decisions about applications
- The eligible persons are CTU Ph.D. students of
informatics in wider sense. This means that their research topic and
interest should match with the research topic listed in the NII call. CTU
has not been sending master students to NII.
- The person at CTU serving as a contact to NII and
also sending the applications is
Václav Hlaváč.
- The length of the stay: If it is 90
days or shorter
then the visa is not needed. If the stay is longer than three months then
visa is necessary. We had a student who stayed for 6 months. The visa issue
was managable. Talk to your FEL, FIT, CIIRC supervisor and V. Hlavac about it.
- The
NII International Exchange based on MOU Program describes the conditions at
NII.
- Funding of CTU students: The NII
side pays 5,700 yen/day in sojourn expenses, also accident insurance. The
travel expenses should be covered by CTU side, i.e. secured by the
supervisor and/or her/his department. CTU students pays his accommodation and
living expenses from the NII scholarship. The NII support suffices for a
modest life in Tokyo.
- Communication with the Japanese side. The candidate is
not supposed to contact a potential host directly. It is part of Japanese
culture that a senior person establishes the contact first. If interested,
contact V. Hlavac first and he will discuss the internship
informally with you. Call me on my mobile phone +420 603 149 689. After this is done, I address the potential Japanese
advisor to open the communication channel for you.
- How to apply?
(1) Find appropriate topic/supervisor at NII side.
(2)
Discuss it with your supervisor at CTU Prague including the possibility of
hosting/financing a reciprocal NII student in the future.
(3) Download the
application form and fill it in preliminarily.
(4) Send it to V. Hlavac by email and simultaneously contact him on his
mobile phone for a short
interview. Do it immediately, please.
- The selection procedure at CTU Prague side.
V. Hlavac will consider the
applications in cooperation with CTU Rector's Office. The selected
candidates will be informed immediately. V. Hlavac will submit the
applications to NII before the deadline. If there are many good candidates,
we will submit three
applications at most from which NII selects.
- Reciprocity, funding of NII students in Prague. There is a
mutual understaning of reciprocity in internships between CTU and NII.
Japanese side might want to send their student to CTU. Accepting NII
students at CTU side needs supervisors and funding. The CTU applicants for
NII scholarhips are requested to ask their supervisors and the head of
departments about the readiness to host a NII student and financially
support her/him in the future. Such a stay of a NII student will reciprocite a
stay of a CTU student at NII. V. Hlavac expects that the student's application is accompanied by the
informal confirmation from a student supervisor (an email suffices) that a
future NII student will be finacially supported on the level matching the
NII financial support. The Dept. of Cybernetics of FEE CTU hosted several NII Ph.D. students
in the past following the mentioned reciprocity principle.
- You may want to consult an expert on Tokyo life. Dr.
Ondřej Velek, director of CIIRC ČVUT lived in Tokyo for seven years,
obtained his Ph.D. degree at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He offers the NII candidates and informal
discussion. If interested to set a date for personal meeting, send him the
email to
ondrej.velek@cvut.cz.
